Review: Feed

Feed (Newsflesh, #1)Feed by Mira Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I haven't ever been a great fan of zombies but this one was way different.

The story is set in the future, after there had been a rising of zombies. Zombies no live in the real world with normal humans... so you have to protect yourself from them. There are blood tests everywhere you go, walls to protect you and security for the rich and famous. Some places are safe to live, other less so.

A team of bloggers, a brother and sister and their techy friend, are chosen to follow a senator through his campaign. Georgia and Shaun (the brother and sister) are such a great team and you get the feeling of the great relationship between them. It makes you feel all warm and fussy inside to see this great brother and sister team. Their techy friend, Buffy, is a bit weird. She's soft and loves poetry, dresses strangely but she's more tech than anything I've read before. They're team is an amazing thing to see.

So while following the senator on his campaign strange things start to happen and things you didn't expect. There are outbreaks in towns and things get hot and heavy. They stick to the campaign and some shocking things start to happen.

I don't want to give to much away from the story, but you find yourself feeling for these characters. Things you don't expect to happen really start happening.

To tell you the truth I didn't think much of the book when I started it, but I really loved it in the end. Vampires have been done to death according to me, but I've never been into zombies, so I was skeptical about this. But I'm so glad that I read it, it's changed my mind. There's nothing really too sci fi about this book, you can really relate to the characters and you could actually imagine yourself living in a world like this.

Georgia, the sister that Shaun calls George, is a strong young women, giving another great element to this story, they people in it are young adults, not teenagers. Georgia is tough and a little scary at times. She speaks her mind and is just after the truth.

Shaun, the brother in this duo, is funny and loves adventure. He's witty but you shouldn't mess with him. He truly loves his sister and she's the only one he trusts, and vice versa.

Buffy, the tech head and fictional writer, she's a bit strange, super religious and the best technical support a team of bloggers could ask for.

I'd really recommend this book to someone who'd love to read something different for a change.

Hey Niecole - glad to see you liked this one. I have "Deadline", the second in this series for review and I'm waiting for my copy of "Feed" to arrive.

I love that the characters are engaging and relatable - it is often something that makes or breaks a book. I also haven't read many zombie books, but there are some great ones out there and I think I'm going to start broadening my horizons. :)

Good review.
