On My Wishlist # 1

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday (But I'm doing it today). It's where you can list all the books you desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It's also an event that you can join in with too - Mr Linky is always at the ready on the home blog...

So here is my book on my wish list!

The book is called "Fees van die Ongenooides" in Afrikaans which is my native language and it is written by PG Du Plessis. It has also been translated into English and is called "Feast of the Uninvited"

I've wanted this book for so long! There was a programme about it on one of our local tv stations and I just had to have to book.

The book is about the Boer War and how a family living on a farm survives in South Africa. The English soldiers come to their farm and want to drive them away because they want to occupy the land, so this family is forced to live in a concentration camp.

But one girls husband has gone to war, and when a handsome English soldier shows pitty towards her they fall in love...

It's a beautiful story and very sad and funny at times.

I love collecting books, and this is just one of those that I'd love for my children to read someday. :)

I didn't realize people actually spoke Afrikaans. I've heard of it, but don't know much about it. I assume it's very similar to Dutch. Am I right?

Oh my SIL will love this book - she loves all books about the BOERE OORLOG. It is funny, her husband is english (she is afrikaans) and she accuses him of being a "kakie" when she starts reading these books. It is a big family joke :)
