My To Be Read list is as long as my arm... I've been clearing up a bit, but I think I might be needing your help with some of them, so I've decided to try and post a book weekly, a book that I'm not sure about reading...
Give me your take on it, your opinion, should I keep it on or take it off?
For the First week its: The Catcher in the Rye...
"Since his debut in 1951 as The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield has been synonymous with "cynical adolescent." Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his sixteen-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school, in a slang that sounds edgy even today and keeps this novel on banned book lists. It begins,
"If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. In the first place, that stuff bores me, and in the second place, my parents would have about two hemorrhages apiece if I told anything pretty personal about them."
His constant wry observations about what he encounters, from teachers to phonies (the two of course are not mutually exclusive) capture the essence of the eternal teenage experience of alienation."
It sounds interesting enough, but it doesn't really tell me much.
What are some of your opinions guys?

The only reason I'd consider reading this is because it's achieved cult status and could be considered an 'important' book.
However, it sounds like an entire novel about a teenager whining. When I was in high school I might have called it "ranting" and identified with his angst, but now I'm more likely to find it irritating.
Of course, it might be very good, but I'd be happy to give it a miss.

I've heard a couple of people with the same opinion, thats why I think I'm going to take it off my list and stick to the stuff I really love.
